Police arrest suspect after Christmas Eve burglary in Northfield, N.J.

NORTHFIELD, New Jersey (WPVI) — Police in Atlantic County have arrested a person accused of burglarizing a house and making an attempt to interrupt into one other on Christmas Eve.

Police say a picture from a house surveillance digicam led them to the suspect.

Pat Gorsky-Bent was at a celebration on Christmas Eve when she began getting alerts from her doorbell digicam.

Somebody was exterior her home in Northfield, New Jersey.

“My Ring doorbell saved going off, and I knew the place I used to be at – everyone I might’ve been anticipating, company-wise, have been there,” she stated.

The digicam captured the person’s face and in addition confirmed him peeking into her home windows.

“After I received dwelling, my again gates have been open. So I knew he was within the yard,” stated Gorsky-Bent.

That picture helped police meet up with Thomas DiStefano, 68, of Pleasantville. He had no remark when Northfield Police arrested him on Thursday in reference to the tried break-in.

“For the entire week, I could not even sleep at night time. Simply going away, simply to go to get one thing on the retailer and coming in, or coming in late at night time. It was a nightmare,” she stated.

Police say DiStefano dedicated a minimum of two crimes on Christmas Eve, truly breaking into one other dwelling.

“He did a job in Linwood the place he broke a again window in and left a blood path,” stated Northfield Police Captain Steve Steinecke.

Police say the break-in occurred at a house on Shore Highway in Linwood.

It is unclear what was taken.

Northfield Police say they’ve seen a rise in residential burglaries recently, and that is not unusual across the holidays.

They’re encouraging folks to watch out.

“Individuals placing out packages exterior, you already know, like TV bins and issues like that form of telegraph what you bought for Christmas and any individual like him may wish to take that,” stated Steinecke.

Police are investigating if DiStefano could also be accountable for extra break-ins or makes an attempt.
