New Jersey Rep. Josh Gottheimer says New York’s congestion pricing plan would rob Port Authority
NEW JERSEY — New Jersey Rep. Josh Gottheimer, some of the vocal opponents of New York’s congestion pricing plan, is highlighting what he calls the hidden prices.
Gottheimer stated the plan to cost drivers getting into Manhattan’s central enterprise district takes critically-needed cash from the Port Authority.
“If the MTA and New York Metropolis get their method, there might be a billion-dollar gap in funding for vital tasks throughout New Jersey and throughout the area,” stated Gottheimer.
The congressman stated the Port Authority stands to lose $125 million per yr from fewer drivers utilizing the Hudson River crossings.
Misplaced income may affect the Port Authority capital tasks together with renovating the George Washington Bridge, changing the Lincoln Tunnel helix and repairing native airport infrastructure, he stated.
At a press convention Thursday, MTA Chair Janno Lieber was requested in regards to the figures talked about by Gottheimer.
“They don’t seem to be in any MTA stories and I don’t know the place they got here from, and any of that type of work relies on advanced modeling. So I don’t know who would’ve carried out that type of work,” Lieber stated.
