N.J. Democratic State Chairman stands with Biden – New Jersey Globe

Acknowledging that the upcoming election will be difficult, New Jersey Democratic State Chairman LeRoy Jones, Jr. wants his party to accept that Joe Biden is their nominee and work to make sure Donald Trump doesn’t regain the presidency.

The statement puts Jones, the Essex County Democratic chairman, in a different place than one of his key allies, Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair), who called on Biden to drop out of the race.

“It’s past time for us to coalesce around our Presidential ticket and do the hard work required of us to make sure Democrats win up and down the ballot this November,” Jones said.  “There is simply too much at stake to do anything less.”

Jones wants Democrats to focus on Trump.

“(He) has already tried to overthrow our government once and, if he is elected again, his implementation of Project 2025 will give him a second bite at that apple,” stated Jones.  “He will strip away women’s rights, he will indiscriminately round up immigrants and their families for deportation, he will use the office to ‘punish’ his political enemies, he will wipe away decades of civil rights gains, and he will act like a true dictator.”

Jones said that “families sometimes have disagreements, and our Democratic Family is no different.”

“One of the many things that makes our Democratic Party best equipped to lead both in New Jersey and around the country is our ability to have those difficult conversations and then move forward thoughtfully and forcefully,” he stated.
