Man charged with using stolen post office mailbox keys to steal mail in CT
A New Jersey man has been charged with using stolen post office mailbox keys to steal mail in Connecticut, federal officials said.
Ixavier Holman Jr., 31, of Secaucus, New Jersey was arrested Monday on federal charges of mail theft, possession of a postal key and theft of United States Postal Service property, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.
Holman allegedly used stolen keys to open blue mail collection boxes at post offices in New Haven and West Haven at least six times between December and this month, federal officials said.
He was arrested Monday morning when he went back to a post office at 589 Campbell St. in West Haven to allegedly try to steal more mail, according to federal officials.
When he was arrested, Holman allegedly had two mailbox keys on him. He allegedly also stole mail from a mailbox at 95 Fountain St. in New Haven, federal officials said.
Holman appeared in court in New Haven on Monday and was released on bond, according to federal officials.
The charge of possession of a postal key carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, while theft of mail carries a maximum sentence of five years. Theft of United States Postal Service property carries a maximum sentence of three years, officials said.
