Bicyclist dies after being struck by New Jersey State Police SUV, investigators say

A bicyclist died Monday morning after being hit by a New Jersey State Police SUV in Warren County, investigators announced Tuesday.

The person was hit by the trooper, who was driving an unmarked police SUV, shortly after 6 a.m. on Willow Grove Street near Brook Hollow Drive in Hackettstown, according to a statement from the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office.

The rider, who was not identified, was taken to Hackettstown Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 7:17 a.m., the office said.

No other information was released Tuesday as the circumstances leading to and surrounding the crash were still under investigation.

The attorney general’s office investigates any time there is a death that occurs during an encounter with police.
