New Hampshire’s five-year outdoor recreation plan

LEBANON, N.H. (WCAX) – A 5-year outdoor recreation plan for new Hampshire has been approved by the National Park Service.

The plan is a broad overview of outdoor recreation options across the state, trends in terms of visitor numbers, and priorities moving forward. It’s a $2.7 Billion industry in the granite state that officials say is growing. The comprehensive plan is required by any state participating in the land and water conservation fund state assistance program. That federal program awards matching grants for projects that promote the outdoors- including projects in individual communities

“For local municipalities to apply for portions of those fund s that we get through the National Parks Service for their local town pool, of waterfront development to playgrounds and skate parks. Really a lot of different things under the umbrella of outdoor recreation.” said N.H. Parks and Recreation director, Brian Wilson.

Since 1965, nearly $50 million in land and water conservation grants have been awarded to new Hampshire cities and towns as well as state parks and state forests across all of New Hampshire’s ten counties.
