Massachusetts Tennis Drops Match At Syracuse, 4-0 – University of Massachusetts Athletics
Syracuse closely notched the doubles point to begin the contest. After the duo of Mariya Krasakova and Alexandra O’Brien fell 6-2 to the Orange’s Viktoriya Kanapatskaya and Emilie Elde at No. 3 doubles, the Minutewomen promptly got one back on court No. 2. Ella Faessler and Amelia Tye defeated Constance Levivier and Anastasia Sysoeva of Syracuse, 6-2 at second singles. On court No. 3, Danielle Hack and Thamonpan Jonglertrakul lost a tightly contested, 7-5 match to Syracuse’s Ines Fonte and Polina Kozyreva to go 0-1 into singles play.
The Orange claimed wins at No. 5, No. 4, and No. 2 singles to clinch the “first to four victories” match. On courts No. 1 and No. 3, Hack and Jonglertrakul were both up in the second set after losing the first; before both matches ultimately went unfinished. At No. 6 singles, Polina Akimova was down 6-5, 0-1 to Syracuse’s Levivier prior to that match also going unfinished.
Massachusetts takes a break before returning to action for two matches on Saturday, March 2 and Sunday, March 3. The Minutewomen visit Dartmouth on Saturday for a 12:30 p.m. match in Hanover, New Hampshire, before welcoming LIU on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Bay Road Indoor Tennis Center.
