How can Massachusetts families stuck in Israel and Gaza get back home?
After Hamas, the Islamic fundamentalist militant group that controls the Gaza Strip, overran Israel’s border defenses and launched a surprise incursion into Israeli territory last weekend, Mass. leaders are emphasizing the need for the safe return of U.S. and Massachusetts citizens.
A Boston Globe article detailed one Massachusetts family from Medway who has been trapped in Gaza after traveling to visit relatives. Wafaa Abuzayda, Abood Okal and their 1½-year-old son, Yousef, have been trying to escape but have been stuck without supplies, the news outlet reported on Thursday.
“I am deeply concerned about the safety of innocent civilians in Israel and Gaza, including Massachusetts residents who have been unable to return home. I will do everything in my power to support their safe return,” said U.S. Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., on X in response to the Boston Globe article.
