Why WGME CBS 13’s Owen Kingsley Is Leaving News in Maine

After several years on the air here in the Pine Tree State, this Emmy-nominated reporter will be leaving.

Owen Kingsley, who was born and raised here in ‘Vacationland,’ recently announced that he will be leaving his current station.

The WGME CBS 13 anchor and reporter will be departing from the state he has called home both personally and professionally for years.

Owen Kingsley announced on Facebook Monday that he is leaving Portland, marking the end of an important chapter in his life and career. He referred to Portland as his hometown and expressed how special the past two and a half years have been.

If Owen looks familiar and you’re not in Portland, it might be because he spent several years working in Bangor.

Kingsley’s first on-air job was with WABI TV5, where he reported on your stories and anchored the weekend news. Owen was a familiar face in our Queen City of the East for nearly three years.

In the same Facebook post where he announced his departure from WGME, Owen shared that he will return to a state he knows well.

He explained that the decision to leave wasn’t easy, but he’s excited to begin reporting for WFSB – Channel 3 Eyewitness News. Owen previously attended Quinnipiac University in Connecticut, earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in journalism. Kingsley also worked as an assignment editor for two years at WTNH in New Haven, Connecticut.

Kingsley’s move will surely be felt by many who have followed his work and valued his presence in the Maine community.
