These Two Items At Maine's Only Costco Are Worth The Membership

Maine is not new to warehouse shopping, but no other one offers these two amazing deals.

I’m a new member of Maine’s first and only Costco in Scarborough, Maine. I was very excited to swipe my newly acquired membership card and start my adventure. I had two very specific things in mind: Get that chicken and hot dog deal.

How can Costco in Scarborough, Maine sell chickens and hotdogs so darn cheap?

It’s called a ‘loss leader’. It’s a product that is sold well below the market price to get you into the store. It works like a champ. When I worked my way through the aisles and aisles of items that ‘maybe I DO need‘ – I found the chickens. But wait, where are they?

There was a lady also waiting for the famed chickens. We had a nice chat about how it was worth the wait. Why? It’s because their rotisserie chickens are huge, only $4.99, and they have been that price since 2009. It’s easily worth twice that much. But you can’t (well you shouldn’t) sit and start munching on a huge chicken – I suggest you get a hotdog. But definitely wait for that chicken, it’s delicious.

Now let’s talk about that hotdog. As I was waiting for my chicken to be done, I strolled around the ginormous store resisting pretty much everything I didn’t need but definitely wanted. Then I saw a sign. Was it a sign from above? Well, yes – it was above the shoppers screaming out BARGAIN AHEAD!

Let me get this straight. You get a huge dog and a 20oz soda…you can REFILL for only a buck fifty!? You sure do and it’s delicious. I had mine with mustard, relish, and a free side of chopped onions.

Was that all I bought? I wish. I ended up with anti-aging cream and some kind of salad with quinoa! It’s like going to Disney but for a whole lot less!
