Peace and Justice Center of Eastern Maine marks anniversary of Hiroshima bombing

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – A gathering in Bangor Tuesday to call for peace.

The Peace and Justice Center of Eastern Maine and others met at Peirce Park for Hiroshima Day.

They shared thoughts and experiences about the US dropping an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan on this day in 1945.

With speakers, an open mic, and musical performances, participants shared their hopes for peace.

”Guess what? It was involved in responding to a different war. But the… the wars may have changed, but the importance of trying to figure out how to bring peace to our planet is as important today as it ever was…. And for me, this is very important because every time I sing that song, I emote,” said Tom White-Hassler.
