ORONO, Maine (WABI) – Maine Men’s Hockey has begun their season with a near perfect record of 4-0-1 and this coming weekend they’ll look to continue their excellent start.

Coach Barr credits this hot start to getting contributions from a number of different players, hard work and leadership.

The Black Bears are coming off a weekend against Northeastern in which they won their first matchup and tied in their second.

Maine will look to keep their solid start this weekend as the Black Bears are going against what Coach Barr has described as an aggressive Merrimack team.

Coach Barr explained how the team is keeping their energy to prevent any drop in momentum.

“We make them beat the crap out of each other in practice, like they just did, you know? But they like, those are the things they like to do. And that really, again, starts with our captains and our leaders. They go out there and enjoy that. I’ve coached teams, been around kids that you do drills like that at the end. And it’s man we got to do this? And those guys want to keep doing it, sometimes we have to stop. Our compete level is got to be, you know our calling card. And then they have us in the detail that we bring to that compete level is what you know makes us good when we’re playing well and that that can never change,” said Barr.

Puck drop for Friday nights contest is set for 7:30 pm.
