Maine man appeals convictions, sentences in Alaska murder

LEWISTON, Maine (WABI) -A Maine man who was convicted of killing and sexually assaulting a girl in Alaska in 1993 is interesting his convictions and sentences.

The Solar Journal newspaper studies that Steven H. Downs filed a discover of his attraction Monday with the Alaska Courtroom of Appeals.

A jury in February discovered Downs responsible of homicide and sexual assault within the dying of Sophie Sergie in a dorm on the College of Alaska Fairbanks campus in 1993.

He was later sentenced to 75 years in jail.

Sergie’s dying baffled investigators till a DNA match utilizing genetic family tree tracing led them to Downs, who was arrested in 2019 in Maine.
