Maine Celtics’ season ends with loss to Osceola Magic in conference finals

Mac McClung scored 42 points on 16 for 26 shooting as the Osceola Magic defeated the Maine Celtics 135-119 in the NBA G League Eastern Conference Finals on Sunday night in Kissimmee, Florida.

JD Davison had 34 points and 11 assists for Maine, which qualified for the postseason for the third straight season. Five different players scored 17 points or more for Osceola, which will face the winner of Stockton-Austin Western Conference finals for the title.

Maine’s Drew Peterson had 25 points and four assists on 9 for 15 shooting, including 5 for 9 from 3-point range. Tristan Enaruna scored 20 points and Miles Norris added 19 points and eight rebounds on 7 for 11 shooting.

Ethan Thompson and Jalen Slawson each scored 20 points for the Magic and Javonte Smart and Myron Gardner added 17 points apiece.

DJ Rodman’s 3-pointer gave Maine a 1-point lead in the second quarter, but Osceola’s Jalen Slawson quickly answered from deep to take back the lead. McClung scored on the next three offensive possessions to lead a 12-0 Magic run, giving Osceola its largest lead of the first half, 47-36.

Peterson scored on back-to-back possessions to put the Celtics back in front by one early in the second half, but a Gardner triple gave Osceola a 78-76 lead. Slawson made his third and fourth 3s of the night to put the Magic up by seven with under five minutes left in the quarter. A 14-4 Magic run brought Osceola’s lead back up to 11 with 2:31 remaining.
