Local snowmobile club looking for new members
HOLDEN, Maine (WABI) – Some people are holding on to the last few moments of summer while others are getting excited for the winter season.
The Eastern Maine Snowmobile Club in Holden is hosting their open house this Sunday, and everyone is invited.
Snowmobiling and the trails took a hit last winter due to heavy wind and rain storms and a lack of snow.
Now, they are trying to get membership numbers back up for the 2025 season.
The sport relies on those memberships as well as state funding and donations to keep the trails maintained and services operating.
”So, it’s all volunteer work. We hold suppers. We will do all kinds of things trying to make up the money that it costs us to run the trail system. This clubhouse has over seventy miles worth of trails, so that’s a lot of trails covering into Brewer, Eddington, Holden. We connect with Clifton. We connect with Dedham, so there’s a lot of trails that they have to keep open,” said Eileen Lafland the Easter Maine VP of the Maine Snowmobile Association.
The open house is at the Eastern, Maine Snowmobile Club in Holden beginning at 3pm on Sunday.
There will be sleds, trailers, and a dinner provided with the purchase of a membership.
The Glenburn Lakeside Riders Snowmobile Club is also hosting an open house on Saturday at 4:30pm.
