Letter to the editor: Expand winter assistance to Maine’s homeless

Published

It’s disappointing that the plan to distribute checks to assist Mainers with heating prices has failed. It could have been most welcome reduction for a few of the skyrocketing price of gasoline this winter.

For the reason that Legislature must return to the drafting board, I want to ask {that a} bigger portion be put aside for individuals who haven’t any properties to warmth.

We could have a price range surplus, however sadly we now have a surplus of unhoused Mainers, too. Seeing information reviews of the belongings and tents of homeless folks being scooped up by front-end loaders and put into dump vehicles in Portland was heartbreaking. Extra shelters are wanted. Allow us to all share the excess.
