23-year-old Harpswell man dies after being hit by boat propeller

SOUTH HARPSWELL Maine (WABI) – A Maine man has died after officials say he got hit by his boat’s propeller.

The Maine Marine Patrol says Samuel Sharpe, 23, of Harpswell fell from his boat while operating it near South Harpswell Friday evening around 8 p.m.

Based on his injuries, officials believe he was hit by the propeller.

Good Samaritans who witnessed the incident were able to pull him from the water and get him to shore at Potts Point Landing in South Harpswell.

First responders attempted life-saving measures but were unsuccessful.

We’re told Sharpe died at the scene.

U.S. Coast Guard personnel secured the boat, and the Harpswell Harbormaster brought it to shore.
