2 People Were on a Freight Plane When it Crashed in Litchfield

Officials say two people were on a small twin engine plane when it crashed in Litchfield.

Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss has confirmed that a plane has crashed. She says the Maine State Police are assisting in the investigation that’s being led by the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.

WMTW-TV says the plane was a small twin engine freight plane, and that two people were on-board at the time of the crash. Their names and how badly they were hurt has not been released. The plane was flying out of Lewiston, headed to Wales, Maine and reports of the plane crash started coming in at approximately 5:43 pm. Witnesses reported hearing a large explosion. Part of the crash site is on Oak Hill Road in Litchfield.

Litchfield is located about 15 miles southwest of Augusta.

The National Transportation Safety Board and FAA will be investigating the crash.
