To identify the most diverse cities in the U.S., WalletHub compared 501 of the largest cities across 13 metrics in five major diversity categories – socioeconomic diversity, cultural diversity, economic diversity, household diversity, and religious diversity.  Danbury’s highest rankings were in the cultural diversity category, at #21, and socioeconomic diversity, at #34 in the U.S.

“The most diverse cities demonstrate diversity in many dimensions – not just in race and gender but also everything from residents’ languages and birthplaces to their job types and household sizes,” explains WalletHub analyst Cassandra Happe.  “These cities blend together a multitude of different perspectives, helping people to better understand the world around them and become more empathetic. This exchange of ideas also tends to increase the economic success of diverse cities.”

Danbury ranked #4 among small cities, with Norwalk at #9, New Britain at #14 and Bristol at #48; Bridgeport and Stamford were #2 and #3 among mid-sized cities, with Waterbury ranked #30, Hartford at #39 and New Haven at #42 in that category.

Nationwide, the most diverse cities were Gaithersburg, MD; Silver Spring, MD; Germantown, MD;  Houston, TX; Arlington, TX; New York, NY; Jersey City, NJ; Dallas, TX; Charlotte, NC and Danbury, CT.
