Construction Of New Hobby Lobby Store Underway In Norwalk
NORWALK, CT — Construction of a new Hobby Lobby store is currently underway at 380 Main Avenue in Norwalk.
Work could be seen taking place last weekend at the former Bob’s clothing store space, located between a Stop and Shop grocery store and Total Wine liquor store.
Signs advertising a Hobby Lobby store “coming soon” could also be seen around the constriction gates.
For decades, the space was home to the city’s only Bob’s clothing store, however the company officially shut down the store back in March.
At the time, the company had announced plans to open a new combination Bob’s and Eastern Mountain Sports store at 542 Westport Avenue, a space formerly occupied by Bed Bath and Beyond before the store shut down last year.
The company had announced the store would open in May 2024, however it has yet to open as of November and it is currently unclear where current plans stand.
Once open, the Norwalk store will mark Hobby Lobby’s fifth location in Connecticut. The national retail chain also currently operates stores in Bristol, East Haven, Manchester and Milford.
Greater Norwalk Chamber President Shannon O’Toole Giandurco said Friday the chamber was pleased to see a space as large as the former Bob’s store repurposed and renovated promptly rather than remaining vacant.
“With the nearest location in Milford,” O’Toole Giandurco said to Patch, “this new Hobby Lobby will certainly attract Fairfield County customers eager to shop at a nationally recognized store, bringing additional activity to the Norwalk area.”
An official opening date for the new Norwalk store has yet to be announced.
Requests for comment from Hobby Lobby were not immediately returned this week.
