Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont proposes canceling overdue medical debt
HARTFORD, Conn. — Connecticut residents battling medical debt might quickly get some aid.
Thursday, Gov. Ned Lamont introduced a proposal to cancel overdue medical debt.
He is calling for the state to speculate $20 million in federal COVID restoration funding from the American Rescue Plan Act.
He needs to make use of these funds to contract with a nonprofit that buys medical debt and eliminates it at a fraction of the associated fee.
The governor estimates it might save residents about $2 billion.
