Children ages 6 and 3 killed in Connecticut crash
A two-vehicle crash killed two children and left a pair of adults badly injured in southern Connecticut on Sunday.
Connecticut State police said the deadly collision occurred around 3:30 p.m. when a Ford F-600 Super Duty pickup truck being driven by a 40-year-old man hit the back of a Honda Civic carrying 6-year-old Laura Vitoria Alves Brito and 3-year-old Riquelme Alves Brito. The children were pronounced dead at Waterbury Hospital.
A 33-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman in the Civic were taken to separate hospitals for injuries believe to be serious. The pickup driver was brought to St. Mary’s Hospital. His injuries reportedly appeared minor.
Parts of Route 8 passing through Beacon Falls, Conn., were closed for five hours after the crash, according to WFSB in Hartford. That outlet identified the adults in the Civic as Andresa Alves De Brito and Thiago Pereira Neves.
Both vehicles were driving in the left lane north of Exit 23 when the collision occurred. State police indicated the crash took place in the northbound lane, but traffic moving in both directions was shut down.
