Boho Farm offers an opportunity for a lovely, old-fashioned experience on Open House Day, and all year long
Among the many choices of things to do for Connecticut residents on this year’s Open House Day (June 10) was an opportunity to visit the beautiful and very charming Boho Farm, in East Haddam.
“We moved here in 2015 and we started everything pretty much right away,” said Gina Weske, who owns the farm with her husband, Chris.
“We took out trees, and we pretty much redid the property,” said Weske.
“We are creating a place to bring community and families together with simple, creative, and educational fun,” reads the farm’s website.
And judging from the experience on Open House Day, the couple is succeeding in doing just that. The farm is just over 4 acres, and the couple grows vegetables and flowers, and raises chickens, ducks, goats, and pigs.
Boho Farn offers a wide variety of activities throughout the year, including flower workshops, painting parties, crafts, and much more. There is an on-site, charming shop that offers an eclectic mix of locally-produced items, including soaps and candles made from the farm’s goat milk.
Eggs are offered during the laying season, as well as occasional peaches and other fruits produced on the farm. There are also sometimes locally-produced baked goods available.
Cut-your-own flowers is a popular activity during the growing season, and pumpkins are offered in the fall.
“I eventually want this whole space filled with flowers,” said Weske, gesturing toward a currently empty space behind her.
“Fall is really the busiest time here,” she continued, noting that Shakedown, a Grateful Dead tribute band, is a very popular draw during the cooler autumn months.
The best way to find out when the farm and shop are open is to keep an eye on the farm’s very active Facebook page, or follow Boho Farm on Instagram. There you will also find out about workshops and other upcoming activities.
