Everett girl, 14, standing in Chelsea pot shop parking lot was struck by vehicle; Watertown driver charged after crash

A 14-year-old Everett girl was critically injured in a crash Sunday night when a Watertown man behind the wheel of a Mercedes Benz allegedly drove through a metal fence and struck her as she was standing in a Chelsea pot shop parking lot.

Massachusetts State Police and Chelsea Police are now investigating the crash that caused life-threatening injuries to the 14-year-old girl shortly after 8 p.m. on Sunday in the parking lot of RISE Recreational Marijuana Dispensary Chelsea on Beacham Street.

The girl was transported to a Boston hospital after the crash, and she was in critical condition on Monday, police said.

Ceserino Borelli, 44, has been charged with numerous motor vehicle offenses by Chelsea Police, and additional charges against the suspect are possible depending on the results of the investigation.

At around 8:10 p.m. on Sunday, Borelli was allegedly driving a 2020 Mercedes Benz sedan heading west on Beacham at a high rate of speed.

The Mercedes then entered the Dunkin’ parking lot at 276 Beacham St., causing property damage and then driving through a metal fence that surrounded the parking lot of the RISE Dispensary cannabis shop, according to police.

The Mercedes also struck a parked and occupied Mercedes SUV, and then hit the teenage girl, who was standing in the RISE Dispensary parking lot.

After hitting the girl, the Mercedes continued through the parking lot and struck a parked Nissan SUV. Borelli then got out of the vehicle and walked toward the front of RISE before laying down on the sidewalk.

Chelsea Police officers were first to respond and began rendering life-saving medical aid to the girl until Chelsea Fire Department and Cataldo Ambulance personnel arrived on scene and took over care. She was then transported to a Boston hospital.

Borelli was transported to a Boston hospital after complaining of back pain. He remained hospitalized under Chelsea Police guard on Monday.

The crash investigation is being conducted by Chelsea Police, the State Police Detective Unit for Suffolk County, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section.
