Celtics rival signs slew of players including former Boston forward who was released
Justin Champagnie played in only two games for the Celtics last season, and now he’ll be joining their rival for the upcoming campaign.
The former Boston forward signed with the Heat on Friday, Miami announced. Champagnie was one of six players the Eastern Conference champions inked to deals.
Details on Champagnie’s contract were unknown, though the Miami Herald’s Anthony Chiang reported that it’s an Exhibit 10 deal. The Heat can convert the Exhibit 10 to a two-way contract before Opening Night.

The Celtics signed Champagnie late last season and averaged 2.5 points and 1.5 assists in his two games. Boston waived the 22-year-old on Aug. 1. Had he been on the C’s roster past then, Champagnie would have been guaranteed $50,000.
He appeared in four Summer League games for the Celtics, averaging 13.0 points and 8.3 rebounds. But he wasn’t efficient for the team and struggled with his shooting.
Originally undrafted, Champagnie signed with the Toronto Raptors. He remained there for three seasons before being waived. Now the 22-year-old will try to find a steady team to call home with the Heat.
