Boston rain postpones Yankees-Red Sox again
BOSTON – The battle for last place in the AL East has been postponed once again.
After a two-hour delay, Wednesday’s Yankees-Red Sox game at Fenway Park was wiped out by rain before it ever began.
It will be made up on Thursday as part of a split doubleheader — two days after the teams played a split doubleheader because Monday’s series opener was also washed out.
Game 1 on Thursday will begin at 1:35 p.m., followed by the nightcap at 7:15 p.m.
Michael King will start the opener for the Yankees with Clarke Schmidt pitching Game 2.
Schmidt had initially been scheduled to start Monday’s game before it was postponed and then Wednesday’s game before it was postponed.
Had Wednesday’s game been played, the Yankees would have been short in the bullpen a day after they used every reliever besides Greg Weissert.
“We’ll have more length [Thursday], but a lot more to cover,” manager Aaron Boone said.
After the Yankees swept Tuesday’s doubleheader, they moved into a tie with the Red Sox for fourth place in the AL East, with both teams sitting at 73-72.
