Boston Celtic’s depth currently not championship level

The Boston Celtics have made significant moves this offseason, with the main departures being Marcus Smart and Grant Williams. The moves have shaken up the Celtics roster, and the only real replacement has been Kristaps Porzingis.

Ultimately, it seems the Cs have taken one step forward and one step back, as the lack of depth on the roster is a concern. As currently constituted, the Celtics do not have enough depth to win a championship.

For a team that is trying to win a title firmly in their championship window, I find it odd how they have handled the offseason. The team has shown no intention of adding depth to their core, which is interesting considering that the main reason why they lost to the Miami Heat was due to the difference in depth.

As we currently sit in the first week of July, the Celtic’s first three players off the bench would most likely be Malcolm Brogdon, Al Horford, and Sam Hauser. The next two players would probably be Payton Pritchard and Oshae Brissett. This is simply not good enough, and it speaks to a larger issue within the organization.

The Boston Celtics are bending the knee to the new CBA

The Boston Celtics are clearly costing costs this offseason to get under the new tax aprons of the CBA. This move should infuriate Celtics fans because it is looking like it might be a reset year for the team. Having a financial reset year during a championship window is not a recipe for success, and it is embarrassing.

If the Celtics were truly all in on winning Banner 18, they would have prioritized Grant Williams and other top free agents. Instead, they are content with currently having a poor lack of depth to surround their superstars.

And that may lead to more of the same in terms of postseason success, or lack thereof.
