9 Boston-area restaurants are iconic, according to OpenTable

OpenTable named Boston’s most iconic restaurants and launched a new program this week to help users snag reservations at them.

The online restaurant reservation service company’s OpenTable Icons program currently lists the hottest and most in-demand tables in restaurants across nine different cities, including Boston. The listings include each restaurant’s current availability.

“With Icons you can easily see the soonest you can get a table at award-winning and in-demand restaurants,” said Debby Soo, CEO of OpenTable, in a statement. “We want to help all diners experience these incredible restaurants – enhancing the search experience is just the beginning.”

What makes a restaurant iconic? Iconic restaurants stand above the rest through Michelin stars and James Beard Foundation awards and nominations, celebrated chefs, positive customer and critic reviews, and strong diner interest, among other factors, according to the company.

The current Boston-area list includes the following nine restaurants:

There are currently more than 100 restaurants listed on OpenTable Icons in the following cities: Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Miami, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Toronto, and Washington, D.C. The company will add restaurants in Houston and New York City later this month.

OpenTable says it will reveal additional Icons restaurants throughout the year.
