Boston police arrested a 14-year-old boy at a Dorchester park on Saturday evening after he was found to be carrying a gun, officials said.

Police were monitoring an event at Harambee Park shortly before 7 p.m., when officers noticed a teenager clenching a fanny pack under his arm, according to a statement released by the Boston Police Department. When officers approached him, the teen fled into the crowd, and police lost sight of him, according to the statement.

Police later observed the teenager sitting on a ledge with a group of people and again approached, this time instructing the teen to stand so officers could frisk him, according to the statement. After further investigation, police found a Smith and Wesson gun in the teenager’s bag, with 13 rounds of ammunition and a destroyed serial number, the statement said.
