Sal Bando, a former four-time Main League Baseball (MLB) All-Star and three-time World Sequence champion, has died on the age of 78, the league introduced on Saturday.
“It’s with a heavy coronary heart the Bando household is unhappy to announce the passing of their husband and father, Sal,” who on Friday, January 20, misplaced “his battle with most cancers that started over 5 years in the past,” the Bando household said in a statement.
“Sandy, Sal’s spouse of 54 years, and sons, Sal Jr, Sonny, and Stef, ship their like to household, associates and followers who mourn the lack of a humble and devoted man.”
Bando was a star at Arizona State College earlier than starting his MLB profession in 1966 with the Kansas Metropolis Athletics.
Bando received three consecutive World Sequence titles as captain of the Oakland Athletics from 1972 to 1974. He represented the A’s within the All-Star recreation in 1969 and 1972-1974.
“We’re heartbroken to study of the passing of Athletics Corridor of Famer Sal Bando,” the Athletics said in a statement.
“‘Captain Sal,’ as he was affectionately recognized among the many A’s devoted, was a four-time All-Star and led the Membership to a few consecutive World Sequence titles. Our deepest condolences are along with his household, associates, and followers.”
Bando then went to the Milwaukee Brewers the place his profession resulted in 1981 and moved right into a front-office position with the group.
He was promoted to normal supervisor after the 1991 season and served in that position till 1999. He was later inducted into the Brewers Wall of Honor in 2014.
