Gabe Treutel, a freshman at Michigan State College, advised CNN he and his roommates are hunkered down and are listening to police scanners because the taking pictures incident on campus continues.  

Treutel says he was simply sitting at his desk in his West Akers dorm room, taking a quiz for his chemistry lab when he obtained an e-mail alert from the college warning him of pictures being fired on campus. 

That’s when he and his roommates turned on a neighborhood police scanner being broadcast on-line. Though police scanners are helpful instruments for monitoring police actions and exercise throughout conditions like these, they typically comprise unconfirmed and in the end confirmed false stories of shooters and pictures being fired.

“Then most likely about 10 minutes later, there was a report that there was a shot fired [at another dorm] a few block away,” Treutel stated.
