MADISON – The Wisconsin volleyball team took care of business in its first round NCAA Tournament match Thursday.

The Badgers (24-6) needed just 1 hour, 17 minutes to score a 25-16, 25-16, 25-14 victor of Fairfield at the UW Field House. Making quick work of the Stags was especially key because UW returns to the court Friday night for it second round match against Georgia Tech (7 p.m.).
Fairfield finished 21-12.
Senior Anna Smrek finished with 14 kills, a season-high .684 hitting percentage and tied for the team lead with five blocks. Sarah Franklin, a senior outside hitter, added 12 kills and eight digs.
Wisconsin also got eight kills (.286) from senior outside hitter Julia Orzol. Junior middle Carter Booth six kills and five blocks.
Freshman setter Charlie Fuebringer’s 41 assists were her second-highest total of the season for a three-set match
