Wisconsin Valley Fair offers food of all kinds for every palate
WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – The Wisconsin Valley Fair brought food vendors of all types to the grounds this year.
Local organizations use the fair as one of their biggest fundraising opportunities of the year. First English Lutheran sells breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and has been at the fair for more than 100 years.
The Noon Optimists sell their highly demanded pork chops-on-a-stick and elephant ears to raise money for their various community programs
“We’re out to always give the best experience to families,” First English Lutheran’s Jerome Dahlke said.
For some, like the Marathon County 4-H’s loaded baked potato stand, the fair is a family tradition.
“My grandma actually works in there and she likes me helping her a lot, and I’ll do it because I want to. And I get free potatoes,” 4-H member Caleb Kulesa said.
Businesses from all over central Wisconsin bring their food to Wausau for the fair. Severt’s Fine Foods offers your usual selection of burgers and sandwiches, but say they usually sell out of an atypical menu item: Rocky Mountain oysters.
“They’re cow nuts,” Ashley Fitzgerald of Severt’s Fine Foods said through a laugh. “I think they’re pretty good.”
Some vendors stray from the everyday American fair food. Gyros, pho, egg rolls, and boba tea are all found at the fair.
The fair runs through Sunday.
