MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – September is Hunger Action Month.

Governor Tony Evers signed a proclamation Tuesday on behalf of the six Feeding Wisconsin member food banks to recognize the month.

State Health Officer and Division of Public Health Administrator Paula Tran presented the proclamation at Second Harvest Food Bank.

“This month the state of Wisconsin joins dedicated food banks, hunger action organizations and advocates across the state in recognizing the vital importance of food security for all Wisconsinites, and in taking action to ensure no Wisconsinite goes hungry,” said Tran.

According to Feeding Wisconsin, nearly 618,000 people in the state don’t have enough nutritious food to eat and don’t where their next meal is coming from.

For nearly four decades, the organization has put more than 100 million meals for people who face food insecurity across southwestern Wisconsin.
