Wisconsin A.G. Josh Kaul visits Appleton to discuss ‘Safe at Home’ program
APPLETON, Wis. (WBAY) – Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul held a news conference in Appleton on Thursday for the Wisconsin Department Of Justice “Safe at Home” Program.
It was established to ensure victim confidentiality in court cases involving crimes such as domestic abuse, child abuse, sexual abuse, stalking, and trafficking. It provides a legal, substitute address for use on both public and private documents in place of a victim’s actual home address.
“I believe every Wisconsinite should be able to feel safe at home, and that is the goal of this program. To make sure that Wisconsinites who are concerned about their safety can protect the confidentiality of their address,” said Attorney General Kaul.
The safe at-home substitute address was created for victims of specific abuse crimes but it can also be used if someone simply fears for their physical safety during court proceedings.
