WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. (WMTV) – Authorities are searching for two people who went missing after a boat capsized on the Wisconsin River Thursday afternoon.

According to the Wisconsin Dells Police Department, a call came in just before 4:30 p.m. reporting that a boat carrying three people had capsized on the river south of the Kilbourn Dam.

Officials said one person was able to safely swim to shore. The two other people were not seen after going under the water.

Search efforts quickly began with multiple rescue boats being deployed. Columbia County and Sauk County Dive Teams were called in to assist, but the dangerous conditions, including high water levels and fast-moving currents near the dam, prevented divers from entering the water.

Authorities also used boats equipped with sonar, aerial drones, shoreline searches, and an underwater drone to aid in the search. As night fell and with the unpredictable flow of the river, officials decided to suspend the search for the evening.

The search will resume Friday morning as authorities continue their efforts to locate the missing boaters.
