LeMahieu questions Trump's chances of winning Wisconsin
Senate majority Leader Devin LeMahieu said he’s not convinced former President Donald Trump is the best pick to widely appeal to GOP voters in Wisconsin.
LeMahieu, R-Oostburg, at a WisPolitics luncheon Thursday argued Trump might do well in rural northern Wisconsin, but former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley might do better in suburban areas.
“I’m frustrated sometimes with Republicans who go down the road of choosing something that has not worked already,” he said. “[For example] choosing (former conservative state Supreme Court Justice) Dan Kelly who lost statewide massively, and thinking that the results are going to change. You know, Trump won Wisconsin once, and then he lost Wisconsin. Those are the facts.”
Any of the candidates other than Trump would do better against President Joe Biden, he added.
“I’m not the biggest fan of Governor DeSantis either,” he said. “I really liked Nikki Haley. But I’m not endorsing. It’s up to the voters at this point.”
