Friendship Circle of Wisconsin kicks off fundraising campaign to keep café open

WISCONSIN (CBS 58) — Donors and supporters of The Friendship Circle of Wisconsin gathered Tuesday for a fundraiser to help the Fox Point café and bakery.

The nonprofit organization also focuses on social outreach, providing job training, mental health support and helping kids and adults with disabilities.

The Friendship Circle is facing a $300,000 deficit after costs of goods rose and major donors stepped down. Organizers say they hope they’ll make the café part of their morning coffee routine.

“This is an emergency meeting, on the coldest night of the year, to launch a fundraising campaign to help us bridge the gap,’ said Levi Stein, executive director of The Friendship Circle of Wisconsin.

“Hopefully together, the community will come together, step up, will donate, and we’ll be able to continue doing the work that we do.”

The Friendship Circle says while you can donate right now, there will be donation-matching campaigns on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.

Suspected human bones found in northern Wisconsin

(WFRV) – Authorities in northern Wisconsin are investigating after suspected human bones may have been found by a forester.

According to a release from the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office, a forester marking trees on Friday, May 8, notified officials that he may have found human bones.

Rusk County deputies, DNR officials, and officials with the Wisconsin Department of Justice – Division of Criminal Investigations responded to the scene and were led through the woods and recovered the suspected human bones.

Authorities say they are working with the Rusk County Medical Examiner’s office and a forensic anthropologist to confirm the identity.

Positive identification has not yet been made, but officials say a positive identification is expected to be made based off of medical records.

No other information is available at this time.
