WISCONSIN — Thousands of Wisconsin children are in need of foster care. Even though many people have already stepped up to be foster parents, there are still not enough homes for children.

What You Need To Know

  • More than 7,000 Wisconsin children are in need of foster care
  • In Milwaukee County, dozens of children enter foster care every month
  • There’s a significant gap in the number of kids that need care and licensed foster providers
  • Foster families play an important role in helping biological families heal and reunite

According to Wellpoint Care Network, which is based in Milwaukee, more than 7,000 children in Wisconsin need foster care.

“It’s definitely a need that’s ongoing, year to year, month to month. We are always really looking for great people to help care for children who need to be placed outside their family homes. There are about 2,000 of those children in Milwaukee County alone that are in those out-of-home care placements,” Angela D’Fantis, Wellpoint Care Network program manager, said.
