Atruly crazy moment occurred this week on a soccer pitch in a very unlikely place. Two South Dakota high school soccer teams went toe-to-toe on Friday, and it featured a wild on-field incident that involved one player kicking and punching another mid-game.

The incident took place during a match between the Bobcats of Brookings High School and the Cobblers of Central High School. The aggressor appears to be No. 13 of Rapid City Central, Jaxson Bergman. He received a shoulder-to-shoulder challenge from No. 48 of Brookings, Kyler Soost, which he clearly didn’t appreciate.

The Rapid City player then pushed his opponent out of bounds with two hands before kicking him in the back, then punching the back of his head repeatedly. The referee stepped in quickly, as did the Bobcats manager and Rapid City players.

No. 2 on Brookings, Caylon Peters, flew in to defend his teammate by throwing some punches at the Rapid City player. Ultimately, the aggressor left the field and the game continued. The Bobcats ended up winning 2-0.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – Special Olympics South Dakota athletes are busy this weekend in the southeastern part of the state.

Not only is Sunday the region’s bocce competition, but on Saturday, athletes took to the softball diamonds.

The competition included much more than just softball games themselves, with individual skills competitions and unified softball games as well.

Some of these athletes went to Minneapolis earlier this year and attended the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games.

“It was awesome. I met a lot of great athletes around the United States. Totally different play than our regular tournaments,” said athlete Trevor Hayes of Aberdeen.

The bocce competition starts Sunday at 9:30 a.m. at McCart Fields on North Western Avenue in Sioux Falls.

The State Fall Classic is out in Rapid City this year, running from September 18 through 20.
