HARTFORD, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – On Thursday, the first licensed cannabis dispensary in the state announced on social media that they would be closing next month.

Unity Rd. shared on Facebook that they and the Hartford Connection will end operation on December 7, citing challenges the state’s cannabis industry has faced.

With a heavy heart, we share the news that Unity Rd. and The Hartford Connection will be closing its doors on December 7th. The journey has been challenging, as the cannabis industry in South Dakota has faced significant obstacles due to the state’s inability to establish an effective medical cannabis program that truly serves its residents.
From the beginning, we embarked on this venture with high hopes, only to find the goalposts moved time and again. Despite our relentless efforts to support and advance the cannabis movement in South Dakota, we believe that now is the right time for us to step away from the industry.
