South Dakota Mines Makerspace blends engineering and art

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – South Dakota Mines hosted an open house in the Makerspace on the third floor of the Devereaux Library Wednesday to introduce community members to the advanced technology there.
Developed as a creative space where students can blend engineering objectives with artistic talent, the Makerspace allows for several activities including 3D printing, laser engraving, and pottery.
Mines Associate Vice President of Student Success Lisa Carlson said she’s seen students benefit from finding a creative outlet in the Makerspace while getting a break from the intense coursework coming from engineering courses.
More Makerspace activities open to the public will take place through the summer.
