South Dakota knocks off Denver 82-72


VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) — Cameron Fens scored 23 points as South Dakota beat Denver 82-72 on Saturday.

Fens also contributed 12 rebounds and four blocks for the Coyotes (9-9, 1-2 Summit League). Isaac Bruns scored 20 points while going 8 of 12 and 3 of 4 from the free-throw line and added six rebounds. Jordan Crawford went 5 of 11 from the field (3 for 7 from 3-point range) to finish with 13 points.

Gabe Oldham led the Pioneers (8-11, 1-3) in scoring, finishing with 24 points, 13 rebounds and two steals. Denver also got 19 points from Zane Nelson. Carson Johnson also put up 11 points and six assists.

VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) — Nick Janowski’s 23 points helped St. Thomas defeat South Dakota 90-78 on Saturday.

Janowski added five rebounds for the Tommies (17-5, 6-1 Summit League). Ryan Dufault scored 13 points, shooting 4 of 5 from the field and 5 for 6 from the line. Isaiah Johnson-Arigu shot 3 for 8 (1 for 5 from 3-point range) and 4 of 6 from the free-throw line to finish with 11 points.

The Coyotes (11-11, 3-4) were led by Jordan Crawford, who recorded 22 points. Uzziah Buntyn added 13 points and three steals for South Dakota. Ethan Kizer finished with 11 points.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – Extreme temperatures cancelled nearly every high school basketball game that was meant to be played on Friday.

The only ranked team competing before the weekend gets started was Wall, the sixth ranked team in Class B.

The team was on the road at New Underwood.

With the Tigers jumping out to an early lead.

But a couple of quick buckets from Teelan Kjerstad changed that, and from there the Eagles never let up.

Wall won 88-65.

AG Jackley presents .7 million 2027 state budget request


PIERRE, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley presented the office’s proposed 2027 $41.7 million budget to the State Legislative Appropriations Committee.

“Every year as Attorney General, I have proposed a budget that uses its resources wisely to protect South Dakotans, and this year is no different,” said Jackley. “Most of our proposed funds are earmarked for criminal investigations, including those at our state correctional facilities, protecting children from internet crimes, and consumer protection.”

Some of the highlighted budget requests include:

  • $646,161 in general funds to replace reduced federal funds for the Internet Crimes Against Children Act
  • $91,009 to hire a Consumer Protection Division Special Projects Coordinator
  • $99,370 in general funds for a new Legal Assistant at the Rapid City offices

Final budget decisions will be made later by the committee, and then will be subject to further approval by Governor Larry Rhoden.
