SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – In what was a back-and-forth battle Tuesday night, South Dakota State defeated South Dakota in five sets, snapping an 18-match losing streak that went back to 2015.

The Jackrabbits are still undefeated on the year, sitting 19-0 and in first place in the Summit League.

The Coyotes meanwhile fall to 13-6 on the year, and 5-3 in the Summit League. They’re currently in third place.

Both head coaches following the game said it was exactly the matchup they were expecting: close the whole way and coming down to a couple of key moments.

“The comeback in the fourth set, the fifth. The swings in momentum throughout the entire match. I just couldn’t be prouder of our group for never giving up and never stopping to believe that we could do it,” SDSU head coach Dan Georgalas.

“I really liked our fight, I liked our demeanor today. I think we were aggressive. We just made some errors in key moments. Obviously, you’d like to go back to that fourth set where we did have a chance to close out the match. We had some opportunities in there too, we just didn’t execute,” USD head coach Leanne Williamson said.

USD is back in action Thursday night in Vermillion against Denver, while SDSU is also home Saturday, also against Denver.
