Sanford Underground Research Facility to host South Dakota’s largest free science festival
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – The Sanford Underground Research Facility is taking over the town of Lead on Saturday, July 13 for Neutrino Day, South Dakota’s largest free science festival.
Taking place all day Saturday, attendees can expect a wide range of scientific activities, meant for people of all ages. Now, it’s suggested that you begin the day at the Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center & Handley Recreation Center for hands-on demonstrations. You can explore the Little Shop of Physics at the Hampton Inn, the airplane and rocket building at Manuel Brothers Park, cookie decorating at Rustic Nook Bakery, and hand-tinting photographs at The Gnarly Pine Maker Space. You can also attend a dark matter crash course and check out Mr. Freeze, who uses liquid nitrogen in some experiments.
The event is free for everyone to attend, but SURF does encourage those who are planning to go, to register on their website for a chance to win prizes and play fun games.
