Harrisburg Gold finish perfect year against South Dakota competition with sweep of Aberdeen

HARRISBURG, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – Though Aberdeen Smittys gave them a fight in the first game of their doubleheader, the Harrisburg Gold Post 45 team completed a perfect season against South Dakota legion baseball competition and, likely, locked up the top seed in the State A Legion Baseball playoffs.

On Sunday afternoon the hosts rallied from an early 6-2 deficit in game one to defeat Aberdeen 9-6 before finishing off the sweep with a 9-3 win in game two. Click on the video viewer above for highlights!

With the victories Harrisburg finishes the regular season 34-7-1 and 19-0 against teams from the state of South Dakota. That will likely lock up the top seed in the Class A playoffs as they held the power points league coming into the day ahead of Rapid City Post 22 who had two losses to teams from the state.

The regular season will conclude tomorrow for the rest of the Legion teams in the state with pairing for the seven best-of-three Super Regional series to be announced shortly therafter. The seven winners of those series will join State A Legion Baseball Tournament host Brookings at Bob Shelden Field July 30th-August 3rd.
