SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – The 2024 SDHSAA State Wrestling Championships came to a close yesterday and brought to an end one of the greatest prep careers in the state’s history.

Brandon Valley senior Navarro Schunke wrapped up his high school career with a 6-2 victory State A Heavyweight Championship match over Watertown’s Micah Hach to win his fifth state championship. He’s the seventh prep in South Dakota history to win five or more titles and the first to ever do it in Class A.

When the match was over Navarro cut off his tape and left his shoes, and quite a legacy, on the mat.

Leaving his shoes in the center of the mat signifies that it’s Schunke’s final match ever as he will begin playing college football at Kansas State this coming fall.
