Ohio missing persons: AG’s office hopes age-progressed image will help locate Columbus man

An age-progressed image released Thursday by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation shows what a man who disappeared in 2006 and remains missing might look like today.

Andrew “Andy” Chapman, 32, disappeared 17 years ago without taking his belongings or vehicle from the Hilltop area, where he lived on Whitethorne Avenue with two roommates.

Chapman’s last communication with his family was in December 2006, and he was reported missing doubt a month later.

“Andy’s disappearance left a gaping void of unanswered questions, but we believe his case remains solvable with help from the public,” Attorney General Dave Yost said Thursday in a statement. “If you have any information about his whereabouts, please tell us what you know so we can bring closure to his family.”

Chapman is white with brown eyes, according to an Attorney General’s Office press release. He is now 50 years old. When he disappeared he was 6-feet tall, weighed 175 pounds and had brown hair. He wore size 34×32 pants, large or extra-large shirts and size 11 or 12 shoes prior to his disappearance.

He also struggled with addiction, investigators have said.

No foul play suspected in Huntington man’s death

The Lawrence County Coroner has released the name of the person pulled from the Ohio River on Saturday, April 17.

According to a press release, the coroner’s office was notified that some men fishing on the banks of the river near County Road 1A.

Investigators from the coroner’s office met with Lawrence County Sheriff’s office deputies at the scene and found the deceased man in the shallow water near the bank. They were assisted in recovering the body by Greenup County Fire and Rescue.

The body was sent to Montgomery County for an autopsy and the man was identified as Erin Scott Short, of Huntington, West Virginia.

The coroner’s office said they do not suspect foul play at this time and that the case remains under investigation.

The office also said that it is not connected to a missing man case in Mason County West Virginia where first responders are searching for a Daniel Higginbothan, who was last seen swimming in the Ohio River on Monday near Point Pleasant.

One Dead After Fall From Ohio Stadium Stands During Commencement Ceremony | 1150 WIMA

One person died after falling from Ohio Stadium during Ohio State’s spring commencement ceremony on Sunday (May 5) afternoon. The incident happened around 12:30 p.m., about 30 minutes after the commencement ceremony began.

According to the Columbus Dispatch, the person fell from the stands near Gate 30. Photos from the scene showed the area cordoned off by yellow police tape as officers set up a black tent.

“We are aware of an incident at the stadium during today’s commencement. An individual fell from the stands. They are deceased. We have no additional details to share at this time. Police and emergency responders are on scene,” university spokesman Ben Johnson said.

“For anyone affected by today’s incident, we will make counseling and other support resources available,” he added.

Officials have not identified the victim or said what caused them to fall from the stands.

The incident did not impact the ceremony, in which 12,000 graduates were slated to receive their diplomas.

Kyion Grayes will start his collegiate career anew on the West Coast next season.

The former Ohio State wide receiver, who entered the transfer portal on Tuesday, has selected Cal as his next destination to continue his college career.

Grayes never made much impact in his two seasons in Columbus, catching one pass for 2 yards while redshirting as a freshman and not playing at all in 2023 as he was sidelined with an injury that forced him into a walking boot.

A four-star prospect in the class of 2022, Grayes was the No. 88 overall prospect and No. 14 wide receiver in the 247Sports composite rankings. One of four Ohio State wide receiver commits in that class, Grayes’ departure leaves just one remaining – Kojo Antwi – after Kaleb Brown (Iowa) and Caleb Burton (Auburn) both transferred out last summer.

There wasn’t a clear path to playing time for Grayes in 2024 either, with Emeka Egbuka, Carnell Tate, Brandon Inniss, Jeremiah Smith, Jayden Ballard and Bryson Rodgers appearing ahead of him on the depth chart.

Grayes will arrive at Cal with three years of eligibility remaining as a redshirt sophomore.
