Dispatch: Former cafe and marina floats away from harbor into Ohio River
NEW RICHMOND, Ohio (WXIX) – A restaurant formerly located in New Richmond on the Ohio River broke loose from the shoreline Saturday, according to Clermont County Dispatch.
Dispatchers said that multiple police and fire agencies responded to a water rescue at Skipper’s River Cafe and Steamboat Marina.
A dispatch supervisor said that rescue crews were able to contain the restaurant but it was still in the middle of a channel in the river.
No one was inside at the time, according to a dispatch supervisor.
According to New Richmond Fire & EMS, crews responded around 5 p.m. The Pierce Township Fire Department, Cincinnati Fire Department, Ohio Department of Natural Resources and the US Coast Guard assisted with securing the floating restaurant.
Skipper’s Facebook page says that the restaurant closed this location in January 2024 and plans to reopen in Maysville, Kentucky.
The post also said that there would be “a significant amount of activity” over the next few weeks to prepare for the move.
It is unclear how the restaurant and marina floated away from the shoreline.
