Buckeyes Head to Colorado for Western Invite

COLUMBUS, Ohio – This weekend, the Ohio State fencing program might be in Colorado Springs, Colo., for the Western Invitational hosted by Air Power Academy.

Within the Rankings

  • The U.S. Fencing Coaches Affiliation has introduced its preseason coaches polls.
  • The Buckeye males are ranked third, behind Notre Dame and Columbia, and the ladies are fifth, with Princeton, Notre Dame, Columbia and Harvard forward.

Final Time Out

  • Ohio State began the season with the OSU Open and Duals final weekend in Columbus.
  • Saturday on the OSU Open, 24 Buckeyes recorded Prime 8 finishes, with 17 reaching no less than the semifinals.
  • Montserrat Viveros (girls’s epee), Dariia Myronius (girls’s foil), Roscoe Swartz (males’s sabre) and Paul Veltrup (males’s epee) all gained gold. For the ladies, Yeva Mazur (epee), Alina Lee (foil) and Julieta Toledo (sabre) have been silver medalists, together with Diego Cervantes (foil) on the lads’s aspect.
  • The lads’s and girls’s groups have been each 6-0 Sunday, with wins over Oberlin, Denison, Michigan, Purdue, Indiana and Michigan State. The lads mixed to beat their opponents, 150-12, whereas the ladies had a mixed mark of 140-22.

Again for the Buckeyes

  • Ohio State certified the utmost 12 fencers to the 2022 NCAA Championships, and 11 of the 12 returned to the squad for 2022-23.
  • Gabriel Feinberg gained the 2022 NCAA males’s epee championship as a freshman final season and earned First Crew All-America accolades.
  • Second Crew All-Individuals Julieta Toledo (girls’s sabre) and Montserrat Viveros (girls’s epee) return, as do Honorable Point out All-Individuals Bence Bende (males’s epee), Alina Lee (girls’s foil) and Yeva Mazur (girls’s epee).
  • The opposite returning NCAA qualifiers are Ele Perrier (girls’s sabre), Diego Cervantes (males’s foil), Edriss Ndiaye (males’s foil), Roscoe Swartz (males’s sabre) and Nolan Williams (males’s sabre).

Wanting Forward

  • The Buckeyes will journey to Philadelphia for the Elite Invitational Nov. 19-20 to wrap up their fall workforce competitors.
  • They’ll return to motion the weekend in late January, competing on the St. John’s Duals Jan. 21 in Queens, N.Y., and on the UPenn Invitational Jan. 22 in Philadelphia.
